Christmas markets can now be found in almost every town in South Tyrol. By contrast, there are only five original Christmas markets in South Tyrol: in Bolzano/Bozen, Merano/Meran, Bressanone/Brixen, Brunico/Bruneck and Vitipeno/Sterzing. The Christmas market in Bressanone/Brixen is the one which is the closest to our hotel near Bressanone/Brixen. The beautiful cathedral square forms the backdrop for the rustic wooden houses with all kinds of tasty delicacies and traditional craftsmanship. Tip: Don't miss the nativity exhibition in the Episcopal Hofburg! The Christmas market in Brunico/Bruneck is also worth a visit. The charm of this Christmas market between the four main gates of the medieval city walls is probably due to the small town and its inhabitants themselves. The Christmas market in Vitipeno/Sterzing is also small but lovely and is dominated by the former Fugger town’s landmark, the Torre delle dodici/Zwölferturm. For those who miss the Italian flair, we recommend a trip to the Christmas market in Bolzano/Bozen. The Italian-speaking provincial town offers another atmospheric setting for the Christmas markets in South Tyrol. Wellness fans would do well to visit the spa town of Merano/Meran. Right on the Kurpromenade in Merano/Meran, you will not only find the picturesque Christmas market but also Terme Merano/Therme Meran, the ultimate highlight for those seeking peace and quiet.
